Emily and Lloyd met through friends in Minneapolis but ended up connecting over the phone as they still lived in different states. After nearly two years of dating, Emily moved to California and the rest was history. Lloyd proposed on a beautiful hotel rooftop after dining at one of their favorite restaurants when they were back in Minnesota. When they began wedding planning, Emily and Lloyed shared their dream of getting married in Los Cabos right away with Momentos Weddings & Events. Together, over 20 months, the couple and Momentos crafted an earthy, terracotta-inspired long-weekend wedding that stood out for its aesthetic, the surroundings of Los Cabos, and a spectacular venue: Baja Luna.

All-inclusive venue

Bride Emily loved the vibe of Baja Luna, a unique venue that allowed the couple and their planner to create an elegantly curated experience for the newlyweds and their guests, all captured on camera by By Julieta. The architecture is beautifully designed, and it has enough space to create different experiences throughout the venue. The spots Emily and Lloyd chose were: The chapel for the ceremony, the pool for the cocktail area, and the Janney Garden for the reception and dancing.

Planning a mini-vacation wedding

For Emily and Lloyd, it was essential that their guests enjoyed a mini vacation when attending their wedding because many guests were coming from Australia (the groom’s home country). Because of this, having multiple events around the main celebration was key. They wanted a lengthy wedding program and, with that in mind, Momentos Weddings & Events designed a series of incredible events for everyone to enjoy a long weekend in Los Cabos. Momentos also suggested have at least one host hotel for guests to choose from, and the couple chose both the Hilton and Viceroy.

Terracotta color palette inspo

To achieve the ideal style for this terracotta-inspired wedding, the color palette was crucial. Let It Bloom selected distinctive colors including burnt orange, pale blush, antique white, bright white, sage, and garden green to create a natural and romantic atmosphere with a few extra surprises.

The rundown: 4-day Wedding Itinerary

On the first day, the couple hosted a rehearsal dinner at Neat By Lumbre, an incredibly cool spot located in San Jose’s Art District. The art district is a magical part of town with art-filled streets, color, and folklore. Guests enjoyed a menu of chicken gyoza, tomatillo salsa verde, raw carrot salad, oxtail beef ravioli, yellowfin tuna sashimi, and octopus tostada, among many other dishes.

Planning the wedding party activities

The second day consisted of separately planned activities for the ladies and the guys. The guys took part in a golf session at Puerto Los Cabos, why the ladies had a spa day at Zadun, a must-visit luxury venue. In the afternoon, Emily and Lloyd hosted a welcome party at Hilton Los Cabos for all of the guests where they enjoyed ocean views on the terrace.

Minimalist ceremony design: Floating on air

The wedding took place on the third day and was filled with plenty of fun and overwhelming emotions. The couple’s first look took place at Viceroy before everyone was transported to Baja Luna where they exchanged vows under a floral installation that appeared to be floating in mid-air.

Choosing the perfect ceremony music

The ceremony was accompanied by purposeful songs for each moment. For the processional, “Lift Me Up” by Rihanna played; for the bride’s entrance, they had “2009 Instrumental” by Mac Miller; and for the newlyweds’ grand exit, they played “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” by Stevie Wonder.

During the cocktail hour, guests enjoyed delicious appetizers, including: Zucchini rolls, teriyaki meatballs, mini tuna tostada, and bread with baba ghanoush. Meanwhile, the music from saxophonist Jafet Music captivated everyone, especially when he continued during the reception, alternating with Alex DJ.

For this photoshoot, we drew inspiration from the simple beauty of Puerto Peñasco’s unspoiled beaches, where the desert dramatically meets the Sea of Cortez. As Arizona natives, Puerto Peñasco (aka Rocky Point) is our closest beach so we grew up vacationing here and it’s amazing to be able to showcase this town as a destination for modern weddings. Our color inspiration came from the vibrant marigold which is used during the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos. We wanted to show it in a modern way and combine it with rich tropical florals and pops of burgundy and peach.

the perfect venue on Airbnb

For the venue, we selected Laguna Shores, an Airbnb that perfectly mirrored our vision with its impeccable modern details. The Moroccan-inspired door served as a stunning focal point, set against a backdrop of pristine white walls and elegant arches. Nestled amid the serene white sand desert steps from the ocean, this space offered a seamless blend of contemporary sophistication and natural beauty, providing an ideal setting for capturing our concept.

For the florals and decor, Bloom Maven embraced the vibrant essence of Mexico, we were inspired by the rich, symbolic florals traditionally used during Día de los Muertos. We combined the rich marigolds with tropical greenery and pops of burgundy to give it a modern look. Our venue’s modern white walls and natural wood and stone elements created the perfect canvas to add that pop of color.

We chose a dress with an elegant fitted silhouette from Gigi Bridal by Pronovias. This satin dress offers a timeless, refined, and minimalist look that pairs perfectly with the desert coastal terrain in Puerto Peñasco. For the suit, we went with a soft blush suit from ASOS. This delicate shade of pink evokes a gentle, understated elegance. The soft blush suit contrasts subtly with the Sonoran Desert’s rich palette of sandy beiges, terracotta, and muted greens, creating a harmonious and sophisticated look.

Despite moving in the same circles and having friends in common for years, Joe and Brian only officially met one week before the COVID lockdown. In retrospect, “COVID eliminated so many distractions and gave us time to prioritize the relationship and get to know one another. Remote work helped. Fewer happy hours helped. It was the definition of a silver lining.” Brian orchestrated the private proposal at their favorite restaurant in 2022, under the guise of his birthday celebration. After spending Christmas together in Palm Springs and enjoying great summer weekends in Provincetown, these two DC politico grooms decided to invite everyone to the place that captured both aesthetics: the gayest little resort town in Sonoma County, Guerneville, California. Chelsea and Mike are a Tinder success story–yes, they do exist. Both swiped right on April 24, 2017, and after an evening of cocktails, texting, and dancing to Vulfpeck together (but separately in our respective homes) they decided to meet. Their first date was at a local Minneapolis hotspot (dive bar), Mayslack’s, and the rest is history. After lots of relationship evolution, let’s fast forward to 2020. That summer Mike had hinted that he would propose that year, and he waited until the literal last day to do it. They got engaged during the pandemic on New Year’s Eve while dancing to a live show by The Avett Brothers in their basement. When Chelsea said yes, Mike’s response was, “OFF TO NEW ORLEANS!” even though he’d never been. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

Our wedding was 1000% us. From the vendors we chose to work with and the venue, to the songs we used, the format of the wedding, down to the uneven bridal party. Throughout the process, we trusted our guts and our hearts to only move forward with something if it felt right and authentic and I believe that was showcased to everyone who shared our day with us.

Chelsea and Mike were lucky enough to find Sun Dew Love Party, who totally got their vision and helped bring it to life, starting with the perfect venue. Music Box Village beautifully encompassed all the vibes they were going for.

Our inspiration was us in New Orleans! Mike is into metal and he basically only wears black, while my dream is to be covered in glitter, pastels, and neons. So, we tried our best to combine the two! The color palette was influenced by a wedding I had seen a photo of, but then we “Chelsea and Mike-ified” it and made it quite a bit more extra. We created a billion Pinterest boards for inspiration for each aspect and then trusted our friends/vendors/loved ones to run with it and they all delivered BEAUTIFULLY! Choosing carefully and researching carefully who we worked with was KEY since we trusted them all and knew they understood our vision.

A patterned tablecloth from BBJ La Tavola defied tradition, modern gold silverware added a touch of contemporary elegance, and small white butterflies, discreetly scattered throughout the florals, introduced an element of delicate surprise.

Allie and Lewis met through a mutual friend on a lazy Sunday afternoon at a friend’s house in Venice Beach. Lewis thought Allie was cute, but she was in a relationship at the time. The two remained friendly for years afterward until they both became romantically available, went on a date, and the rest was history! Lewis proposed to Allie during a weekend in Sonoma on the very last day of their trip during an “Oyster Experience” at Hog Island Oyster Co. in Tomales Bay. Keep scrolling to see how their whimsical and boho-adjacent color palette came together for this perfect inspiration for a late summer into early fall wedding, all captured by For the Love of It and Hoo Films!

Color palettes inspired by locale

When they began planning, the couple had no theme or color palette. With the help of some family, friends, and JOWY Productions, they were able to put together a gorgeous wedding day! Allie and Lewis began by mainly going off of a feeling they wanted to bring to their event. They decided to focus on the locale and pulled from the colors, architecture, and history of Palm Springs and The Parker Hotel. This was where their beautiful, marbleized paper for the invitations by Jonathan Wright and Company came from.

Boho bridesmaids in mix and match hues

Allie’s bridesmaids wore a mixture of vintage boho inspired colors in blues, purples, yellows, and greens. The combination was complemented by the choice of florals in these same hues with pops of pinks and peaches.

The ceremony and cocktail hour were a little bit more whimsical with vibrantly-hued floral arrangements and pops of matcha green, burgundy, and coral to complement the surrounding gardens without completely overshadowing the property’s beautiful grounds.

An unexpected outfit change

Allie’s favorite moment of the day? When the wind picked up and sent Allie’s veil flying into the branch of a tree while Lewis was delivering his vows! It was quite a dramatic moment and there was a large, collective gasp from the crowd. Allie kept her cool and they continued the rest of the ceremony without the veil. It worked out perfectly and was joked about as a mid-ceremony “outfit change!”

For dinner, the intimate, al fresco event took place on the lawn of Parker Palm Springs surrounded by tall green hedges and underneath twinkling string lights and stars. The couple wanted to play up the florals, so they opted for crisp, white tablecloths, tall votives with colored candle sticks, and singular bud vases with a variety of flowers and lots and lots of color.

How to incorporate desert elements into decor

The couple got engaged in the middle of Zion National Park, so being the desert-lovers that they are, they wanted to lean into all the Southwestern notes. This including using authentic, hand-painted tiles as table numbers, authentic cow hides, and desert-inspired florals by Sacred Romance Floral, including cacti and pampas grass. Even Savannah’s bridesmaids’ dresses from Baltic Born and Azazie were inspired by desert sunset and twilight hues!

Cozy doesn’t mean sacrificing elegance

Bride Savannah shared, “We wanted our wedding to reflect who we are as a couple, with the aesthetic, the energy, and overall vibe. The bohemian aesthetic created a cozy environment that made our family and friends feel welcomed, while the southwestern touches made it fun and youthful, reminding us of when we first met in New Mexico!” Darian Shantay Photography captured this ideal vibe perfectly!

Don’t underestimate great food truck catering

Some other beautiful yet laid back details from this special day included taco truck catering from The Lime Truck and crafted cocktails by The Boundless Bar. While they didn’t expect usually sunny Palm Springs to experience a terrible storm, the winter tents with warm lighting added an element of surprise and coziness to a large outdoor venue like The Cree. For the highlight of the evening, however, everyone jumped in the pool at the estate with their clothes on to end the night with a bang!
