Tommy had just joined the research lab as a junior in college, where Tori was working as a senior. After a few months of a blossoming friendship, they began dating. Both on their pre-med track, they were thrilled to be accepted into the same medical school, starting their programs amid the challenges of the pandemic. During their third year of med school, Tommy took Tori on a romantic picnic, where, over a glass of champagne, he asked her to marry him. She said yes, and their journey from friends to lifelong partners took a beautiful new turn.

Katie and Jack would occasionally run into each other on nights out in New York City with their mutual friends. As time unraveled, they got to know each other. They went on their first date in the springtime, making their relationship official by summer. Jack proposed to Katie while on a sunny Saturday walk in the West Village. Later that afternoon, the couple was greeted by friends who had traveled to celebrate their engagement!

For Katie and Jack’s wintertime wedding, enchanting holiday decor and glamorous ballrooms merged with a sentimental focus on family. Although Katie is a teacher and enjoys her summers off work, she felt that December offered a different type of magic for their wedding. The couple didn’t shy away from a short engagement either and found that booking vendors in the off-season made their short timeline much more manageable.

Hosted at Katie’s dream venue, the Westchester Country Club was booked after only two weeks of being engaged. This location provided pristine grounds for the couple’s outdoor photos, as well as spectacular indoor ballrooms. The building was decorated with cedar boughs that twisted along outdoor pillars while wreaths hung in the corridors. As guests arrived, they were greeted by a remarkable display of illuminated Christmas trees by Amodio’s Garden Center in the foyer, which gleamed with red ornaments and holiday bows.

Magenta, peach, lavender, and periwinkle come together to create a delectably vibrant color palette in this unexpectedly lush Chicago courtyard wedding inspo. Bridget Mary Weddings & Events set out to show couples living in big cities that you don’t need to let where you are define your wedding design. If you want a garden wedding, there are plenty of green spots to be had; you just need to know where to look—or hire a planner who does! Marissa Kelly Photography captured every little detail; keep scrolling to see even more inspo from this colorful shoot and to read all about the amazing vendors that brought it all together.

The design started with the fashion, featuring a chic strapless gown with lace detailing from Grace + Ivory and an emerald green suit from Suit Shop, a sleek, sophisticated look for this pair. We worked with Bridget Mary Weddings, who wanted to steer clear of the popular black/white or pastel color palettes that have been trending and go for colors that are vibrant and bold.

csk-styled-shoot-260

There’s nothing quite like summertime in Chicago (and as a Chicago-based bridal brand, we will die on this hill!). Although we love a city-view rooftop ceremony and a concrete jungle photo opp, it can be more difficult to find venues with lush greenery for a garden-party-inspired wedding. Center Street Kitchen (CSK) in Lincoln Park features a beautiful and intimate garden patio with a unique mirror wall adorned in greenery. It’s perfect for smaller, cocktail-style weddings and events.

For the dress, we selected a new design for 2024, the Zoe dress. Featuring a trending, corset-style bodice with a large flower lace applique adorned with clear sequins… the Zoe dress is a structured fit-and-flare beauty. Not to mention the scalloped lace train, which always becomes the star of the show. We paired the gown with Suit Shop’s dark green suit and floral tie to play up the groom’s quirky personality.

And Details Wedding Planning nailed the decor for this winter celebration! the theme: winter wonderland

When planning their winter wedding, Anna and Stephen leaned fully into the season’s magic. After saying, “I do” in Anna’s childhood church, they toasted, danced, and partied with loved ones in a beautiful space dressed for the holidays. A roaring fireplace, countless candles, and an elegant color palette of deep evergreen, white, and gold brought warmth to their big day despite the chilly weather outside.

anna-stephen-select-amy-kolo-photography-021

Springvine Design used pine garlands throughout the classic ivory floral arrangements to give them a winter feel. It must have smelled just like Christmas morning when the guests walked into the ballroom for the first time.

It was Thanksgiving break when Anna and Stephen first connected, but it wasn’t until Anna returned home from law school for Christmas that they would go on their first date. And just like that, a romantic night out turned into a full-fledged love story by New Year’s!

anna-stephen-select-amy-kolo-photography-034

When Stephen turned 30, he took Anna home to celebrate in Chicago, making it clear that she shouldn’t expect a proposal on his birthday trip (despite the photo session in Lincoln Park!). Anna believed him! Lo and behold, she was surprised to find him on one knee at the end of their photo session. It was an easy yes! They celebrated over dinner with custom menus and a bottle of reserve wine specially ordered by Anna’s father.

the looks

The dress code for this winter wedding was black-tie. Who doesn’t want a reason to buy a fancy new fit for the holidays? The groom wore a classic black tuxedo for the big day with a unique feathered bowtie and patent leather loafers to add his own twist on tradition. The bride stunned in a lace long-sleeved ballgown for the ceremony then slipped into a slinky slip dress to dance the night away.

bright wedding flowers

Ashley and Luu’s wedding day at Building 177 was nothing short of joyful. The entire day – planned with the help of Together Ever After – featured florals in bold and bright shades such as lemon, lilac, blush, and tangerine that created a effervescent aesthetic to die for. When Ashley inquired with Pink Poppy Designs about her wedding florals, the florist couldn’t have been more excited about the bright, whimsical style she had envisioned. Learning that bride Ashley was an art teacher presented Pink Poppy with the opportunity to include unique and fun elements into the wedding florals while working directly with the bride to create something extra special.

Florist Pink Poppy asked Ashley if she would be open to painting a wood backdrop for her ceremony, and of course she jumped at the opportunity! The florist delivered a large board to her house a few months before the wedding, and she created the most amazingly beautiful backdrop. Pink Poppy used the bride’s color scheme and painted two additional boards to accent her main piece. This unique and very personal backdrop created an amazing focal point for their ceremony and directly represented their personality and style.

Susie and Bennett wanted to have a fun Halloween wedding where costumes for guests were mandatory – and their entire guest-list took up the call with great enthusiasm! The bride and groom themselves went full out, having professional hair and makeup done, complete with prosthetics. They spent hours transforming into Frankenstein (or more correctly, Frankenstein’s monster) and his bride, which resulted in an amazing effect. With the wedding taking place the weekend before Halloween – and with a full moon rising – the timing could not have been any better.

Ashlyn and CJ met at an EDM concert, and it wasn’t long before they were inseparable. After a number of years together that included many music festivals, the adoption of their dog, Flapjack, and the purchasing of a home in Washington, CJ proposed to Ashlyn with a family heirloom ring, and the rest was history! As both the sister and the wedding planner for Ashlyn and CJ’s special day, Sandra of Savvy Weddings had the unique pleasure of bringing to life an elegant backyard wedding that was as unconventional as it was enchanting. Drawing from Ashlyn’s creative expertise in video game design and CJ’s skilled craftsmanship in welding, their wedding was envisioned as a “fantasyland” – an immersive experience that perfectly captured their personalities and love for music festivals. Captured on camera by Katelyn Kristine Photography, this wedding is an absolute must-see for anyone looking for ways to make their wedding day extra special.

The wedding was set in the couple’s expansive backyard in Poulsbo, Washington, adjacent to the serene Puget Sound. To prepare for their wedding day, the bride and groom (with help from their parents) planted an array of colorful flowers in their garden, and CJ’s dad even repainted their house. Upon the first site visit, Savvy Weddings mapped out the property and determined the best spaces to utilize, as well as the overall flow of events. After walking through this, she and the couple came up with a plan to expand the upper deck and include a staircase for a dramatic entrance down the aisle. They also decided to level the lawn to allow for a tent and dancefloor to be put down on the property.

The tent from Alexanders Party Rentals seemed to float among the trees and was adorned with twinkling lights, ethereal clouds of painted baby’s breath and LED color-changing chandeliers. Guests were seated at a mixture of round and rectangular tables covered with different shades of lilac, blush, and light blue linen. Each table was styled with rainbow floral arrangements, iridescent charger plates, rainbow flatware, a variety of vintage glassware, and surrounded by a sea of candles in soft pastels.

Creating a diverse dinner menu

Dinner was a culinary representation of the couple’s diverse palates. Ashlyn’s love for sushi was catered to with a bespoke sushi station, elegantly set with Japanese lanterns and pastel chopsticks, while CJ’s preference for heartier fare was met with a vibrant taco bar, complete with personalized papel picado and light blue tortilla warmers.

As the night continued, the dance floor buzzed with energy under a canopy of stars thanks to heart-shaped sunglasses and neon light sticks handed out to guests. There was even an epic photo taken of the bride’s 93-year-old grandmother in heart-shaped sunglasses on the dance floor! Music included a mix of EDM, punk, and pop music tracks, setting an upbeat, celebratory tone that had everyone dancing late into the night.

Advice from the wedding planner

Sandra of Savvy Weddings shared, “My advice is to stay true to your vision and personal story. Ashlyn and CJ’s wedding was a testament to the beauty of embracing one’s individuality and the quirks that make a relationship special. Don’t shy away from incorporating unique elements that represent your journey together. The most special weddings are the ones that feel like they are meant for that couple. My other key takeaway is don’t be afraid of color! So often, I find that couples are afraid of color or not sure how to incorporate color into their wedding design. This wedding is the perfect example of how color can be both elegant and impactful.”

their love story

couple in a field of wildflowers for their wedding

Maggie and Sal were at a dive bar in Somerville, Massachusetts for amateur hip-hop night when they first met. After a night of dancing and a competitive game of darts, their fate was sealed. The couple resides in the south end of Boston and adores their neighborhood. Sal knew Maggie would want to keep their engagement intimate and close to home. He proposed in front of their favorite cheese shop, Formaggio Kitchen, under the rouse that they needed to pick up some cheese before visiting Sal’s parents. A stranger took an Oscar-worthy video of the proposal as well as photos of the moment. Afterward, they drove to Sal’s parent’s house as originally planned, where Maggie’s parents, who had flown in from Illinois, were waiting.

an inspiring destination

Inspired by Martha’s Vineyard and the many trips the couple has taken to the island, Maggie and Sal hosted an effortless wedding in the gardens. It was imperative for the couple that their venue could feel like “home” for more than just one night. Lambert’s Cove not only offered a space with plenty of lodging for their guests, but it also included a storybook setting on Martha’s Vineyard. Painted white fences, stone hedges, and arbors charmed their photo reel.

Opting out of floral arrangements, the English garden ceremony made for the most unique wedding aisle of live botanicals. The couple met at the end of the live blossoming aisle, where a pergola stood, overgrown with natural greenery. Fulfilling a lifelong dream of Maggie’s, her father officiated the ceremony.
